SENIOR LEAD UI/UX DESIGNER: ABBOTT MEDICAL
2018 - Present
At Abbott, I have spent the last 4 years improving medical apps that are used by Clinicians to set and control Deep Brain Stimulation for Parkinson's patients and Spinal Cord Stimulation for severe pain patients. Patients can then use the mobile app I've designed to control their therapies. Parkinson's patients use the app to completely stop their tremor and severe pain patients can block pain signals in their spine. Working with class III medical devices has greatly increased my documenting skills. For every UI change I have to provide a User Interface Specification documenting every UI element's function and behavior to be submitted for FDA approval.
Through this work, I hold one UI/UX US Patent:
20200402656-UI DESIGN FOR PATIENT AND CLINICIAN CONTROLLER DEVICES OPERATIVE IN A REMOTE CARE ARCHITECTURE
LEAD UI/UX DESIGNER: HEARTLAND PAYMENTS
2014 - 2018
At Heartland/ Global Payments, I spent 4 years working on a complete eCommerce ecosystem. My projects ranged from creating an online presence to designing mobile applications with unique user experiences for both owners and for customers. I designed an easy to use mobile and web CRM/CMS system to help business owners control and edit backend API's. With their catalogs and loyalty programs in place, I then designed an easy mobile checkout Point of Sale system for tablets and phone devices. The final piece of the eCommerce ecosystem I designed, was the responsive web to mobile website for business owners to keep track of sales metrics, user data, marketing campaigns, and general business insights.
4 years of Mentoring
My last two years at Global Payments I led two junior UI/ UX designers on various projects. As the lead designer, I would design the initial layout, branding, user flow, and navigation of the website and application then delegate sub features to the other designers. I believe in self management, discipline, and an agile process with morning stand ups to keep an eye on progress and raise flags for help sooner than later. As a junior designer would hit a certain milestone, I would hold a design review to gauge feature complete readiness.
Earlier in my career at Copper Mobile, a startup company, I used the same method of leading two other junior UI/UX designers. I was the first UI/UX designer at Copper Mobile and as the company grew we hired on more and more designers repositioning myself as Lead Designer. Most of my career has been a one man army design team that I'm comfortable with, but am happy to work with others, designers or not. I believe its important to bounce ideas back and forth, present your work, and talk through design decisions. These practices create a more robust and versatile design.
UI/ UX DESIGNER: ENTERPRISE CONTRACTS
2013 - 2014
I designed a co-branded MoneyGram and PayPal website, mobile website, and native mobile app for a multi-platform consistent experience. For DELL I designed and created executive presentations and SharePoint websites. At XO Communications I took a UI/UX lead on a responsive web dashboard redesign project.
